2012...
« on: February 05, 2012, 06:08:31 PM »
Looking for ideas, volunteers, what you want us to keep, what should go away...

If you want to play, we want you to play in the event.  If you are really sure you want involved, but not play in a tourney, then let me know.

We need terrain painters.

Firstly, Hey Jeff! Hows it going? I've been looking forward to the day where i'm actually free a tues night lol but we might be moving to the Quarry when I graduate and if that's the case ill be there every week :)

Anyways, I think you should keep the 3 tier comp system. You can't please everyone. With that Said, I feel as if fewer people would be unhappy if you kept it then if you went to a 2 tier.

I think increasing the pt size to 2500 is a good idea.

Raise the squad cap from 50 to 60. But keep pt cap for any model or unit at 500pts.

And lastly, be nicer to my wood elves  :P especially if I bring an all elf winter fluffed filled army  :) But in all I will add that Buckeye Battles is the best tournament series i've ever been apart of and im sure you'll do a great job continuing such greatness.....no pressure  ;)

Going to 2 bands isnt just pleasing players, as there will still be a knot at the dividing line that are unhappy.  For us running it, it makes more sense for better match ups and avoiding you guys playing your own club or vs 3 dwarfs on the same day.  Bigger band means more variety.  Also less likely for a winner vs a loser round 2 or 3.

I do believe 8th has gone a LONG way in evening up the power for many army builds.  I also believe there are some books/builds that can take advantage of 8th in ways not meant to be as they were 7th ed books, so a need for band 1.  But as to band 3 in the past, blocks of orcs and gobbos were band 3.  8th edition has made blocks of t4 guys with parry saves or frenzy (possibly horded) much better, so while  OG might not be band 1, they certainly are better than in the basement.  Ogres also rose out of band 3 almost in any build.  WE armies are odd because they CAN do some things well still.  I think they just are built differently to be effective.  Probably not band 1 in any form, but probably not band 3 in most tourney builds.  Dwarfs got better in 8th with horde and GWs, artillery, so they are generally out of band 3.  TK got a new book and while not great, they have some really nice spells, abilities, and options that most tourny players will bring a solid band 2 list.   So whats left in band 3? Mostly just players that bring bad lists.  If a list gets a certain score, we will warn them that they might want to make some more competitive changes.

I dont have an issue raising the unit size up to 60 or 80 for that matter.  But I think capping at 500 is still a good idea.

As to your WE winter themed?  Well just because something is painted white, doesnt make it band 3!   ;)

Just a point of contention with capping at 500pts.  While this is fine for the lower costed army is not so much for some of the more expensive units.  For example, In my current list I have been running a lizarmand saurus Hoarde.  it is only 40 big but with spears puts me over 500 points, Keep in mind this is without characters.  There should be some exceptions if you leave it at 500 points.  I could see there being some issues if this was a temple guard hoarde or even High elf swordmasters, but for a core unit the point cost may have to be raised a bit..

I don't think many Core Infantry units are over 11/12 points, so I think that 550 or so should be ok with most but would have to look at it..

Ogres are the other consideration but I don't think many are going to run a hoarde of ogres without characters..

Just some food for thought.
Looking forward to Buckeye 2012!

drop them to 39 and add in a Scar-Vet...  40 strong unit while still being within the boundaries....

or we can go with my initial thought... "You have a Slann... deal with a less than 500 point saurus block!"  lol  ;)

A) lizzies get no sympathy from me.  they are a dominant army this edition.

B) if you open up your core infantry rule, then you have to expect hordes of chaos warriors.  if you say saurus need 550 points, and the WoC player then says my Warriors in a 40 horde is over 600, you need to raise points again.   sorry, you have to put a limit somewhere.  If your unit isnt a neat block of even ranks, Im sorry, but they will still fight really well and in a horde missing a guy or 2.

It is nice to have choices and switch things up a bit.

Looking forward to Buckeye 2012!

Interesting development.   The guy that ran the Circuit is no longer at GW.  In the mean time, they posted on the circuit part of their website that TOs should submit their event by Jan 31st.  In the past, we all got email notification.  So we missed the deadline.  I have asked for consideration to be included.   I will keep you posted.

I dont think it will have a huge effect on us, as we get a lot of regulars that have no intention of playing for the GW National event.  But the extra terrain and prize support was nice.
